60 years after the devastating flood of November 1966, composer and artist Erik Dæhlin has followed Arno’s movements through the landscape, from its source in the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines to the western outskirts of Florence. Dæhlin has traced both a fluid iconografia and an ‘audiography’ of the river’s surroundings, diving into the water itself, all in dialogue with his own moving and sensing body. This fluid compositional landscape takes form as an 8-channel hybrid installation where 24 sites along the river make up musical paths going upstream and downstream, integrating the city life crossing the river at four specific times: night, midday, morning, and midnight.
The work resonates with the subterranean qualities of the Chiasso Perduto gallery as a visual and audible dérive heading towards a confluence of the river and its changing identities, where the work becomes itself through a folding of different sites and atmospheres.
